Curriculum

Whilst at WVTC our students will continue to study the core areas of English and Maths, unless they achieved a 4 at GCSE or hold a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification.

Students can study a range of vocational options from the following:

Animal Care, Art, Construction Skills (including Bricklaying, Carpentry and Painting & Decorating), Hair and Beauty, Hospitality and Catering, ICT, Motor Vehicle & Cycle Maintenance (including Car Valeting) and PE & Sports Leadership.

In addition, they will also study employability skills, independent living skills, personal development and personal growth and wellbeing as part of their core curriculum.  The aim of these subjects it to help prepare the students for their transition into adulthood.

All courses enable the students to follow nationally recognised qualifications ranging from Entry Level to Level 2.

We also offer a range of additional courses to supplement the student’s vocational choices. These may include: Community Projects, Enterprise, First Aid at Work, Health and Safety in the Workplace & Travel Training.

Finally, one of the most vital parts of the Centre’s curriculum are quality Work Experience Placements. Students may undertake a range of different placements whilst at WVTC that could range from independent positions to small group assignments.

These opportunities could include vocational subject projects, community projects, working within a different department at the centre, linked CLPT schools or EBP WEX organisations. We aim for these placements to be closely related to the student’s vocational pathways however this can’t always be guaranteed.
